San Francisco Chinatown is one of the largest outside of Asia and the biggest in North America. It is believed to attract more tourists than the Golden Gate Bridge! The best thing about San Francisco Chinatown is that it is very accessible. You can catch a Muni bus or a cable car from popular tourist destinations such as the Ferry Building, Fisherman’s Wharf, Financial District, and Market Street. Shared rides are also easy to find in and around Chinatown.
If you have ever visited Chinatown in another major city, you will find similarities here. The architecture, alleyways, and stories may look and sound familiar. However, the history, culture, and intrigue you find in San Francisco Chinatown, take it to another level. The hustle and bustle of the neighbourhood and its many shops and restaurants are all best taken in on foot. The many walking tours and food tours that cover Chinatown are testaments to this fact. Chinatown offers a full gamut of food options that include dim sum restaurants, tea shops, bubble tea outlets, karaoke bars, and upscale restaurants such as Mister Jiu’s and China Live. An afternoon wandering the streets of Chinatown should be part of your agenda if you ever visit San Francisco.
