PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is a mishmash of tennis, badminton, and  table tennis.

Nearly 5 million players have taken up pickleball, making it the fastest-growing sport in the US.

An Outdoor Pickleball Court

Pickleball can be played indoors or outdoors and uses a court the size of a badminton doubles court.

Much to the annoyance of  tennis players, many tennis courts have been modified to include permanent pickleball lines.

An Indoor Pickleball Court

Many indoor pickleball courts are in shared facilities where the courts' lines can get confusing.

The Players

While the demographics of pickleball players are changing, the adoption of the game has been largely among players middle-aged and older.

The Paddle

Paddles are made from  non-compressible materials and are priced from $15 to upwards of $300.

Pickleball balls are made of smooth, molded plastic with evenly spaced circular holes. Brand name pickleball balls are often priced higher than tennis balls.

The net height is 36” at the sides and 34” at the centre. For comparison, a tennis net is 42” at the sides and 36” at the centre.
