The Lake Palace Experience

A Racquet Social Travelogue

Udaipur, the city of lakes, in Rajastan, India is home to the Taj Lake Palace Hotel.

The Lake Palace Hotel is a palace converted to a hotel, not a hotel constructed to look like a palace. It is surrounded by water and can be accessed only by boats.

Ornamental mirrors, wall paintings, and other artifacts adorn the walls and the lobbey of the hotel, giving it a palacial look and feel.

It is not every day that I get to sit sipping tea in one palace as I look at another one across the lake.

The City Palace, located on the banks of Lake Pichola, is close to the Lake Palace and is considered the largest palace complex in the state of Rajastan.

The rink at the Rockerfeller Center,

You can eat fancy at the Lake Palace Hotel or find some traditional fare such as the Puri bhaji, a dish consisting of fried flour and potato curry.

The resplendent courtyard of the Lake Palace Hotel is befitting a palace - luxurious without being loud.

The rooms at the Lake Palace Hotel are well appointed. The lower-end rooms can be small when compared to other high-end luxury hotel rooms in the same price range.

My room amenities included choclates and fruits, delivered with a touch of royal flare and a not-so-tiny umbrella to boot.

There is no dearth for luxury Hotels in Udaipur, The Leela Palace Hotel is located accross the lake from the Lake Palace.

With its lily ponds and marble structures, the hotel does feel like a palace.

The Hotel offers an on-the-lake experience with its Royal Gangaur, a 150-year-old barge, where they serve cocktails & dinner to small groups.
