Experiencing A Live Tennis Tournament

Watching an ATP or WTA tournament in person is more than about tennis.

The National Bank Open  is held at the  Sobey's Stadium in Toronto

The women’s and men’s events are rotated between  Toronto and Montreal every year.

Most tournaments allow patrons who hold tickets to the main events to walk around and watch matches taking place on the outside courts.

As I walked the grounds taking in the sights and sounds, I realized there are many reasons to watch a tennis tournament in person vs on TV.

To get a real sense of the quality of play, you must be close to the action. The serve speeds and the intensity of the rallies are harder to capture on TV.

The variations brought in by players such as Bianca Andreescu and  Ons Jabeur make the matches more interesting.

There is always something you can pick up from watching the professionals play.  Being there as it happens makes a difference.

ATP/WTA tennis tournaments are ultimately about entertainment.  The sponsors, music, and food stalls are all part of the experience.

Like most entertainment venues, you will find the food and beverage concessions at tennis  stadiums overpriced.

Getting into the spirit of a match along with other fans, while cheering for your favourite players can make you feel that you are part of the action.

You may end up witnessing history. I got to watch the last professional match that Serena Williams would play in Canada.

If you have ever doubted the power and quickness of the top female tennis players, you should watch them in person..
