Havana the capital of Cuba is only 228 Miles from Miami. But, US-Cuba tourism is restricted. Tourism, sugar (rum), tobacco (cigars) are the main revenue sources.

Candians can travel without restrictions to Cuba. Cuban establishments do not accept US$ or credit cards issued by US banks.

I flew into José Martí Airport

En route to your hotel, you are likely to see a bunch of vintage cars. Modern cars are a rarity even in the capital city.

Yes, Havana does have some fancy hotels. The Hotel Nacional de Cuba, opened in 1930, is one of them.

Food & DRINK

Restaurants tend to serve touristy food vs. local fare

As for what the locals drink, it's a toss-up between rum and beer

Cubans still talk up the revolution. The large square features one of the most iconic images in the country.

There are heros aplenty and memorials to match. Jose Marti memorial is one of them.

The Parque Central neighbourhood of Havana is home to some upscale establishments

Gran Teatro de La Habana

The home of the Cuban National Ballet was established to promote the talents of young Cuban dancers.

Parque Almendares is in the middle of the city and is also known as Parque Metropolitana. It is a popular spot for family outings.

The Colon Cemetery, founded in 1876 in the Vedado neighbourhood of Havana, is believed to house over 500 mausoleums.

Walk the streets of old Havana. 

It's a good idea to take  a city tour that takes you from the central business district Vedado to Old Havana and its surroundings.

El Capitolio

The Capitol building is as majestic as they come and isocated in the Centro Habana. It does look similar to the one in Washington D.C.

Check out the local eateries. Many cater specificaly to tourists and include food that you know.  This one was called Cafe Laurent

If you like churches, you would like this one. It is the second largest church in Cuba.
