The Grand Central Terminal

A Racquet Social Travelogue

Grand Central is a rail terminus in NYC serving Metro-Northern Rail, the subway, and buses.  Amtrak uses Penn Station.

With over 750,000 daily visitors,  Grand Central Terminal is one of the biggest tourist draws in New York City. It is second only to Times Square.

Cathedral-like in its architecture, the main concourse of the Grand Central Terminal is unlike any railway stations that you are likely to encounter.

The tunnel-like concourse at the lower-level lies off the food court and is no less grand than the one above it.

Feel the New York City vibe as you take in the  main concourse with its celestial mural, balconies, and the $20-Million clock at the info booth.

Spread over 48 acres, the Grand Central Terminal rarely feels crowded despite the large number of people who visit it.

Central Cellars, a liquor store occupies the space where the Grand Central Theater stood. The theater used to loop short news reels for commuters.

Grand Central Market

A European-style gourmet market offers commuters and visitors options to pick up gifts, prepared foods, and cooking ingerdients right at the terminal.

The Campbell

The Campbell is an upscale bar attached to the Grand Central. Previously, it has been a New York Financier's office, a studio, and a jail.

The Dining Concourse

The Grand Central offers a variety of affordable food options that include burgers, tacos, sandwiches, and bakery items.

Magnolia Bakery, famous for its cupcakes, has an outlet in the dining concourse, making it easy for commuters to grab some sweet treats.

If you like seafood, you would want to stop by the iconic  Oyster Bar Restaurant. It has been around for over a 100 years at the Grand Central.

If you happen to visit the Grand Central in January, you may find a glass squash court right in the middle of the majestic Vanderbilt Hall.

For a squash tournament of its stature, the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions is affordably priced.

You may be surprised to find that the Grand Central houses a public-access tennis club on the  4th floor.
